After developing the elements and resources from the previous activity, it is time to focus on the evaluation during the development process.  As stated in the section, the evaluation is constant and throughout the entire process.  So, consider the process of creating the course elements. What evaluation methods can be implemented throughout to work with the continuous process? List the various phases of the course development and identify which evaluation methods…

We’ve talked about various elements to be created and, through the discussion, identified some resources for those elements.  With those resources in mind, let’s focus on the “identify’ aspect of these course elements. Create a list of those elements you identify and divvy up the resources identified in the journal question to address the creation of those identified elements. If there are elements that you cannot easily identify, determine why and identify…

We have been discussing this idea of applying gamification to activities to promote motivation in learners. Consider a course you are teaching or have taught.  Take one or more of the activities in that course and apply one or more of these activity-based gamification elements that we have discussed. Things to consider: How would the element(s) being added benefit your activity? What would your expectation be of learners from this/these addition(s)?

We have been discussing this idea of applying gamification to activities to promote motivation in learners. Consider a course you are teaching or have taught.  Take that course and apply one or more of these student progress gamification elements that we have discussed. Things to consider: How would the element(s) being added benefit your course? What would your expectation be of learners from this/these addition(s)?

One of the things that is paramount to creating a supportive environment is having learning that is accommodating to all learners, including those that may have learning disabilities.  This does not require simply throwing out all lesson plans and starting from the ground up again, but, instead, it may require additions, subtractions, or adaptions to ensure that the lesson plan is inclusive to all. In this activity, you will: Describe one of…

There are many different learning disabilities that we, as educators, can potentially encounter on a daily basis.  While we are familiar with some of these, others may be less common, or just less known.  So, the purpose of this activity is to gain additional knowledge about a specific adult learning disability in order to further understand how it impacts learners and how you, as an educator, can help students with the…

Two of the main frameworks that are important to be familiar with when it comes to educating individuals with disabilities are Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.  While these two legal frameworks both are for the aid of individuals with learning disabilities, they also vary in many aspects. Find a copy of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act online and review it.  Then, find a…

Take an existing assessment from one of your courses and modify it to be an alternative assessment.  It can be one described previously, or a different one you think of entirely. Some things to consider: Are the objectives the focus of the assessment? Will the assessment be clear to the students? Is the desired outcome achievable by all students?  For example, resources will not limit some students over others.

Consider a lesson that you teach or have taught in the past.  Take the learning objectives from that class and craft at least one question, based on the information learned on proper creation of written questions. Things to consider: Are all of the questions following the objectives properly? Is the wording and purpose of the question clear? Are the questions focused on application as opposed to memorization?

Keeping a good digital brand can be detrimental to career-ready students who are going through the job seeking process. Without a solid understanding of public-vs-private content, privacy settings, and even appropriateness, one piece of media or a couple words can doom a student from getting to the interview stage and become hired. What are some activities that you have done or can do with students that can help them understand the…
